We're starting a new thing here at the USC Hotline. Since there's a lot of online speculation and rumors regarding upcoming phones and products for US Cellular, we think that it would be fun to analyze those rumors and see how likely they are. Remember, these are only rumors. Today we have four new handsets that people have been buzzing about. Why don't we start with the least exciting and work our way up?
Kyocera E2000 "Tempo"
BigE4284 posted on HowardForums about the Kyocera E2000. This phone is almost surely coming to US Cellular, as it is listed on one of the current rebate forms. (PDF)
The main features of this phone are:
- EVDO data
- MP3 music player with external controls, max of 2GB MicroSD storage
- Stereo Bluetooth
- 1.3 megapixel camera
This looks somewhat promising, but boy does that hinge look goofy. Kyocera has always had unique looking phones, though. We'll see if they can pull it off and build a better reputation for themselves.

LG UX-565
Also listed on the current rebate forms is the LG UX-565. This is a phone that Alltel will also be getting. It was unveiled at CES and Engadget Mobile got to play with it. See their story and their pictures.
Main features:
- Music centered phone with external (touch sensitive?) music keys
- Stereo Bluetooth
- 1.3 megapixel camera
This phone reminds us of the LG Muziq in design. The model number (565) is close to that of the Muziq (570), so maybe the phones are alike. Cellman2424 posted on HowardForums.com that the phone should be coming at the end of February.
LG Rumor (UX-260)
Another phone that people have been speculating about is the LG Rumor (aptly named, we think). Its a stylish phone that has a slide-out QWERTY keypad. This is sure to please hardcore texters and LG fans alike. The phone has been released in a few different colors (including black and white) across different carriers, so no one is certain what color US Cellular's version may be. However, this phone is listed on the rebate forms, and on PhoneScoop forums someone stated that the phone will be released by the end of February.

- Slide-out QWERTY keypad
- MP3 player
- 1.3 megapixel camera
- Bluetooth-enabled
The folks at HowardForums.com have also discussed the UX-260. You can read that thread here. Overall the phone looks exciting - a great alternative for those who want a QWERTY keypad but did not want the Kyocera Strobe or the cost of a smartphone.
UT Starcom 6800 Smartphone
Fincher posted (very few) details about the UT Starcom 6800. This phone was branded the HTC 6800 for other networks such as Sprint, but don't fear the UT Starcom label. This phone sports the new Windows Mobile 6.0 and other dazzling features, most notably WIFI access (yes!). Engadget Mobile reported on the device in September of 2006.
Main features:
- WiFi Access
- EVDO Hi-speed data (where available)
- Windows Mobile 6
- Full QWERTY Keyboard (slide-out)
Chances are that this puppy will require the $25/month unlimited smartphone data plan. Note, there's a good chance that the phone won't look exactly like the one pictured above. That's the HTC 6800, but there's a possibility that the phone will be modeled after the PPC6700. What we're trying to say is that there are no official photos of this model yet, but it'll be close to what we've pictured. Because so many other carriers have some version of this phone now, we predict that it should hit stores by April.
The Rumor Mill is exactly just that: rumors. None of these claims have been verified by US Cellular or any authoritative source. While we have evidence to support these speculations, they are to remain "rumors" until confirmed by an official source.

No matter how great the touchscreens work, I'm still looking for a solution with a keyboard - used to have a HTC Tytan, and I just loved the keyboard.

LG Glimmer
I see that Alltel will be releasing the LG Glimmer this week or next. I saw an earlier post here that US Cellular is getting it too. Is there any new info on a release date. I've been with US Cellular for many years now and my only continuing gripe has been their horrible selection of phones. If they get this phone soon it may stop my from switching to Alltel or Verizon at least for another year or two.

I'm curious as to what
I'm curious as to what everyone thinks about the HTC Touch Pro? Is it much of an improvement over the HTC Touch? I've currently got the HTC Touch and absolutely hate it due to WM and the lack of ram. From the constant reboots needed throughout the day and it has NO 3rd party software and two email accounts. You'd think I'm attempting to do advanced calculations on it the way that it freezes up.

I'm sorry but when the Windows mobile operating system is such garbage compared to everything else that's out there right now I just can't in good conscience think that phone is going to be any kind of decent. Having used the iPhone and seen what the Google phone and other phones are capable of and also having used the Windows mobile device. There is just no comparison, Windows Mobile is terrible. Sure it has the capabilities that you would want but the usability is terrible.

It is so difficult to take a decision.
To be very true, It is very difficult to take a decision about any mobile or gadget in these days because we have too much technology and features. Normally, I don't buy anonymous phones but from popular vendors only. Perhaps this is not a right decision but I like to purchase my favorite brand only. I like LG's phone though.

Lots of my friends love to use LG, especially the young ones from China, but I am not sure, as I got one a couple of years ago and stopped working after a WEEK.

I like the LG Rumor, it has full keyboard and it is small.
iPhone has very cool features, but the fact that it is very commercialized makes me sick. To add songs i have to download iTunes. Whats going to be next? To make a phone call I will have to download something like skype on my computer? :)
And using the phone like the Starcom will reassure that you not going to be blown away with the wind, because it is huge, and will probably lower your life insurance cost :)
